Song # 1917.1 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Acts we read in chapter 8 that the people followed Simon the Sorcerer because he amazed them in Samaria. But when Simon and the people heard Philip preach the Good News of the kingdom of God, they followed Philip and they were baptised.
For some time a man named Simon had practised sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great (Acts 8:9), and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed “This man is the divine power known as the ‘Great Power’” (Acts 8:10). They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic (Acts 8:11). But when they believed Philip as he preached the Good News of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptised, both men and women (Acts 8:12). Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw (Acts 8:13).
Thought for today: God’s certainty will see us through life’s uncertainties.
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for eternity. Where will you spend your eternity?
