2 Corinthians 1

V.23-24, Faith causes us to stand firm v.21

I began playing football at an early age and always being larger than everyone else, I usually found myself on the line when it came to offense, defense, and special teams. Being a lineman on the field goal team is so different from being a lineman on the offensive or defense side of the ball. The offensive lineman is continuously either aggressively trying to move opponents to create running lanes or trying to move them away from their quarterback during a pass attempt. The defensive lineman is always on the attack trying to cause penetration and avoid blockers. A lineman on the field goal team is essentially told to stand still and absorb the impact of the defense because you are only trying to stop the opponent from blocking the kick. Sometimes as Christians we find ourselves in the position of a lineman on the field goal team, we are not on the offensive or the defensive we simply find our self standing still trying to successful absorb the impact of this world. In verses 21 and 24 Paul says that in the way we can stand firm and hold our ground is our faith in Jesus Christ.

God’s word is not short of promises that he will be our strength in our time of need if we depend upon him in those moments. Philippians 4:23 says we can do all thing through Christ who strengthens us. Isaiah 41:10 tells us not to worry because God will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us with his righteous right hand. Deuteronomy 31:6 and Joshua 1:9 command us to be strong and courageous simply because God is always with us. I could go on and on, but the point is we can stand firm no matter what we are facing because of our faith in Jesus Christ. We don’t have to worry or be dismayed we just must stand our ground allow God to move on our behalf.
