2 Corinthians 3
V. 4-6, Competency comes from God
While in college, I had an economics professor that required every student to do a presentation in front of the entire classroom during the semester. Before the presentations began, he took time to talk to the classroom about what a quality presentation would consist of and the fact that he understood everyone would be nervous. He said that one of the hardest things to do is give a presentation before your peers because you are always so uncertain of yourself among your peers. He said I come in every class and speak before you with absolutely no fear or nerves because I am certain that I know more about what I am talking about than you do. But if I had to stand and give a presentation on economics in a room full of economics professors then I would be less sure of myself. Similarly, Paul told the church of Corinth in verses 4-6 that they where confident of what they had spoken before them and before God.
Paul’s confidence and boldness didn’t rest in the fact that He was an expert in scripture, or he was an excellent public speaker or debater. He said his competency had nothing to do with him at all but instead it was given to Him and another minister by God. It wasn’t earned, they did purchase it, and it was not something they just picked up along the way through life experiences. It was given to them directly by God through the power of the Holy Spirit. Read the Bible and you will see that God doesn’t call the most talented, most charismatic, or even the best speakers; He called the broken, uneducated, and fearful. Then he equips and empowers them with everything they need to fulfill God’s plan for their life. God manifest’s His power by using the weaknesses we have in order to expand and grow His Kingdom by supernaturally empowering those willing to allow God to use them.
