2 Corinthians 6
V. 17-18, If you come out? I will….
Life is full of things that are dependent upon other things for them to come to pass. If I make a certain ACT score then I can get into the college I want to attend. If I make my mining card, then I can get a job in the coal mine. If I have good behavior in prison then I will be eligible for parole. I could go on and on with things that must happen before other things are possible, but the Apostle Paul mentions one here in verses 17 and 18 that is very important to us all. The scripture says that in order for God to receive us as His children them we must first separate ourselves from the world and seek righteousness. The way it is phrased the two can’t happen independent of each other; to be received we must separate ourselves from the world. In our modern society this is a scary thought because more and more every day the church is looking and sounding like the world.
The world and the church talk the same, watch the same TV shows and movies, hang out at the same places, listen to the same music and spend their money on the same things. I just don’ see the Body of Christ trying to separate itself from the world and it scares me because of what it says here in verses 17-18. The only way we are accepted as His children is if we come out from the world and separate ourselves. With this knowledge shouldn’t we be running in opposite direction of the world? Our love for God should drive us to wanting to be as close to Him as we possibly can. It should make us want to forsake everything in order to grow closer to the Creator. That is how the early church lived their lives but I don’t see it so much in the modern church. WHY?
