In 2 Samuel 22:36, which is a part of a song King David wrote near the end of his life, he says that it was the gentleness of God that had made him great. Most of those who are great in the eyes of the world either made themselves great, or were made great by popular opinion or else the circumstances of their life forced greatness upon them. While that greatness can be impressive, it is never as enduring as the greatness which comes when God makes a man great.
