This Sunday the sermon will be from Matthew 10:40-42 – “The Sermon to the Apostles: Reception and Reward”.





“Whoever receives you receives me…”



Matthew 10:40



Jonathan Edwards, the famous early American Colonial preacher, wrote a book entitled The Distinguishing Marks of the Work of the Spirit of God. He based this study on 1 John 4:6 – “We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” That’s a pretty bold claim, but the Apostle John is simply repeating the truth of Matthew 10:40 – “Whoever receives you receives me….” We test the genuineness of our Christian experience by reading and studying the Apostles writings. So, I must ask, do you “listen” to Christ’s Apostles? Their teaching is recorded for us to read in the pages of the New Testament.
