Song # 2048 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Holy Bible tells us in the Book of Jeremiah in chapter 35 that the Recabites were a nomadic family group, and Jonadab son of Recab ordered his sons and their descendants not to drink wine, or build houses, or sow seeds, or plant vineyards, and they must always live in tents.
The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah (Jeremiah 35:1). “Go to the Recabite family and invite them to come to the house of the Lord and give them wine to drink.” (Jeremiah 35:2). So the whole Recabite family went into the house of the Lord (Jeremiah 35:4), where bowls full of wine were set before the men of the Recabite family and they were invited to “Drink some wine” (Jeremiah 35:5). But they replied “We do not drink wine because our forefather Jonadab son of Recab gave us this command: ‘Neither you nor your descendants must ever drink wine’” (Jeremiah 35:6). “Also you must never build houses, sow seed or plant vineyards, you must never have any of these things, but must always live in tents. Then you will live a long time in the land where you are nomads” (Jeremiah 35:7).
Thought for today: no-one is more secure than those in God’s hands.
Thought for the future: thank God for what you have today, and trust God to provide for tomorrow’s needs. Where will you spend your eternity?
