Song # 2150 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of Deuteronomy we read that the people were told after crossing the Jordan River they are to make an altar to the Lord using stones gathered from the nearby fields.
Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people “Keep all these commands that I give to you today” (Deuteronomy 27:1). “When you have crossed the Jordan into the land the Lord your God is giving you, set up some large stones and coat them with plaster” (Deuteronomy 27:2). “Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you” (Deuteronomy 27:3). “And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command you today, and coat them with plaster (Deuteronomy 27:4). “Build there an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool upon them” (Deuteronomy 27:5). “Build the altar of the Lord your God with stones from the field and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 27:6). “Sacrifice fellowship offerings there, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 27:7). “And you shall write very clearly all the words of this law on these stones you have set up” (Deuteronomy 27:8).
Thought for today: thank God for what you have, trust God for what you need.
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?
