Song # 2158 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Deuteronomy in chapter 3 that Moses is told to look across the Jordan River to see the land the people will inherit. But God tells Moses he will not cross the river into that land.
“You have seen with your own eyes all that the Lord your God has done. The Lord will do the same to all the kingdoms over there where you are going” (Deuteronomy 3:21). “Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you” (Deuteronomy 3:22). Moses pleaded with the Lord (Deuteronomy 3:23). “Oh Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do?” (Deuteronomy 3:24). “Let me go over and see the good land beyond the Jordan - that fine hill country and Lebanon” (Deuteronomy 3:25). But the Lord was angry and would not listen to Moses (Deuteronomy 3:26). The Lord said to Moses “Go up to the top of Pisgah and look west and north and south and east. Look at the land with your own eyes, since you are not going to cross this Jordan” (Deuteronomy 3:27). “But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see” (Deuteronomy 3:28). So they stayed in the valley near Beth Peor (Deuteronomy 3:29).
Thought for today: put your trust in God and He will see you through.
Thought for the future: no-one is more secure than those on God’s hands. Where will you spend your eternity?
