Song # 2216 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Mark in chapter 8 that Jesus tells His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, where He will be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law. There He will be put to death but He will rise again on the third day, to return in time, to His Father’s glory in heaven.
Jesus began to teach the disciples that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again (Mark 8:31). Jesus spoke plainly to them about this, and Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him (Mark 8:32). But when Jesus turned and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter “Get behind me, Satan!” Jesus said. “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men” (Mark 8:33). Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples and said “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8:34). “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the Gospel will save it” (Mark 8:35).
Thought for today: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need.
Thought for the future: now is the time to invest in heaven. Where will you spend your eternity?
