Song # 2222 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. The Book of Lamentations is a collection of five poems lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC, and its aftermath of ruin and exile. The song “The Lord Is Good” comes from Lamentations chapter 3.
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him (Lamentations 3:25), it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord (Lamentations 3:26), it is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young (Lamentations 3:27). Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him (Lamentations 3:28). Let him bury his face in the dust - there may yet be hope (Lamentations 3:29). Let him offer his cheek to the one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace (Lamentations 3:30). For men are not cast off by the Lord for ever (Lamentations 3:31). Though He brings grief, He will show compassion (Lamentations 3:32).
Thought for today: eyes of faith see God’s work.
Thought for the future: there’s only one way to heaven, but that’s all we need. Where will you spend your eternity?
