Song # 2317 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. In the Book of 1 Kings we read in chapter 15 that Asa became king of Judah and reigned in Jerusalem for forty one years.
Asa became king of Judah (1 Kings 15:9), and he reigned in Jerusalem for forty one years. His grandmother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom (1 Kings 15:10). Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done (1 Kings 15:11). He expelled the male shrine-prostitutes from the land and got rid of all the idols his fathers had made (1 Kings 15:12). He even deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole*. Asa cut the pole down and burned it in the Kidron Valley (1 Kings 15:13). Although he did not remove the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life (1 Kings 15:14). He brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated (1 Kings 15:15). There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns (1 Kings 15:16).
*Asherah poles were a representation of Asherah, a Canaanite goddess of fertility.
Thought for today: now is the time to invest in heaven.
Thought for the future: when God forgives, He restores the soul. Where will you spend your eternity?
