“A Leadership of Blessings or Curses”
1 Samuel 14:24-35
1. What do we look for in our leaders?
What character is necessary to lead a nation?
Honesty, faith, good plans for action.
An ability to accurately access the world situation.
2. The Lord raises up leaders.
1 Samuel 2:6-7
He brings down to Sheol and raises up.
Daniel 2:17-23
He removes kings and sets up kings;
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding.
3. The character of a good leader.
A good leader then needs to seek the lord to understand His will for instructing the people in what is good righteous and just.
He knows the way of the Lord and leads the people in it.
He inspires faith and trust not in himself but in the Lord.
4. Jonathan and his armor bearer
1 Samuel 14:6-13,
Jonathan is a man of faith who inspires faith in those who follow him.
5. Saul seeks to motivate the people through fear.
1 Samuel 14:24-33
So Saul had laid an oath on the people, saying, “Cursed be the man who eats food until it is evening and I am avenged on my enemies.”
6. Eating the blood.
Leviticus 17:13-14
You shall not eat the blood of any creature, for the life of every creature is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off.
Deuteronomy 12:8-18
7. Lack of faith results in a poor self image and fear.
Saul was chosen by the Lord to be king over Israel.
A leader is raised up to serve the Lord and lead the people. He also could have based his authority to lead as king because of the Lord’s anointing.
Conclusions:
1. Whoever our leaders are we should consider their lives and imitate their faith and summit to their leadership. (Heb. 13:7)
2. If God has called us to a position of leadership in the family or the church, we need to be faithful to the task that he has called us to.
3. Leadership needs to diligently seek the Lord and his will.
4. The bold plans with steps of faith to trust the Lord and carry out his work need to be chosen and followed.
5. This morning we at our Annual General Meeting we need to remember that it is the Lord Jesus Christ whom we serve and it is he who gives us success in all we do.
