3/6/22 | 1 Samuel 13:1-15 | Waiting on the Lord | Jesus Saves Bible Church | Jim Mudge |
“Waiting on the Lord”
1 Samuel 13:1-15
1. Waiting on the Lord and walking by faith.
Waiting on the Lord and walking by faith are closely related to each other. They both are responses of faith to the commands and leading of the Lord.
2. An example trying to solve a problem on our own.
Have you ever had a desire for something to happen in your life and sought for a promise from God that he would fulfill your desire?
3. Consider Abram and Sarai
Genesis 16:1-6
When Sarai was getting old and had not had children, she offered her maid servant as the solution to their childless situation.
Hebrews 11:9-12 But later she
herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
4. The Kingdom of Saul
1 Samuel 13:1
Saul was … years old when he began to reign, and he reigned … and two years over Israel. (ESV)
Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel, (KJV)
“Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty-two years” (NIV)
5. Jonathan’s first victory
1 Samuel 13:3-7
Jonathan defeated the garrison of the Philistines that was at Geba, and the Philistines heard of it.
And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear.” And all Israel heard it said that Saul had defeated the garrison of the Philistines.
6. Saul's Unlawful Sacrifice
(failure to wait on the Lord and Samuel)
1 Samuel 13:8-15
7. Psalm 27
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came.
8. God’s solutions often require us to rest in His promise and wait on the Lord.
Isaiah 40:28-31
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Conclusions:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Prov. 3:5-6
Obey the commands of what he has revealed to you.
When troubles come remember God is always the one who gives you salvation.
Wait on him and trust him for all things.
Nothing is too hard for the Lord.
