“God Seeks a King After His Own Heart”
1 Samuel 16:1-13
1. Looking on outward appearances.
I read a news article this week by Buzz Feed.
It was titled,
“Black People Are Sharing the Unwritten Rules They Follow That Most White People Are Clueless About, And It's Eye-Opening.”
2. Saul’s outward appearance
1 Samuel 9:1-2
A handsome young man. There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.
3. Kings as servants of the King of Kings
1 Samuel 8:7-8
They have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
4. Saul’s rejection as king.
Saul’s desire to please the people and his rejection of the Lord’s commands causes the Lord to also reject him as king over Israel.
1 Samuel 15:21-35
5. The Lord chooses a king for himself
1 Samuel 16:1-13
Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.
6. Shepherds after The Lord’s own heart.
The Lord often seeks out His servants who will do his will.
Jeremiah 3:11-23
I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.
7. Paul’s message to Antioch Pisidia
Acts 13: 21-23
‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ Of this man’s offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised.
Conclusions:
1. God desires all people everywhere to know Him.
2. He seeks people to come to him and he raises up kings and leaders to teach the will of God and to lead the people in the ways of God.
3. Jesus is the ultimate king who came to do the will of His Father.
4. He was the ultimate man after the heart of God and we are being created in his image.
