In undoubtedly the greatest sermon ever preached, The Sermon on the Mount, Jesus explains the Biblical gospel (good news) that He would fulfill/accomplish the requirements of God's law (
Mt. 5:17-18) - perfect righteousness (
Mt. 5:48) so that sinners can be saved from God's coming wrath by seeking and asking for Jesus' righteousness (
Mt. 6:33). The first section of the Sermon on the Mount is called the Beatitudes - the blessings (the gift of divine grace that results in complete happiness/satisfaction/contentment) of the coming Kingdom when Jesus establishes His eternal Kingdom, brings complete justice, and rights every wrong of our current sin cursed world. The title of the sermon
is "8 Aspects of True Happiness" that detail the 8 heart conditions required to enter Jesus' coming Kingdom and the 8 corresponding blessings that are promised to follower of Christ when the Kingdom of God is established by Jesus for 1000 years here on earth. This sermon details the good news of Jesus coming Kingdom and goes in depth in explaining the first 3 blessings/beatitudes as far as what Jesus meant when he said "blessed are the poor in spirit" (the humble at heart enter the Kingdom of God), "blessed are those who mourn" (those repenting over their sin will be comforted/forgiven), and "blessed are the gentle" (the loving/kind/meek at heart will inherit the blessings of the Millennial Kingdom on earth). There are also several practical applications included in the sermon: 1) a call to examine ourselves to see if we are truly humble at heart or if in blind pride we think too highly of ourselves, 2) a challenge to test our spiritual mourning by asking God to break us over our sin and help us keep short accounts with God by continuously repenting of our sin (
1 John 1:9), and 3) a command to be gentle like Jesus in how we love one another (
Eph. 4:32). Join Truth Bible Church as they study
