Song # 855.2 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. We read in the Book of Matthew in chapter 13 that Jesus was not honoured for the miracles He performed, or as a prophet by the people in His hometown. This is one of the few references to Jesus’ family in the Holy Bible where we learn the name of His brothers.
When Jesus came to His home town, He began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked (Matthew 13:54). “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t His Mother’s name Mary, and aren’t His brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas?” (Matthew 13:55). “Aren’t all His sisters with us? Where did this man get all these things?” they said (Matthew 13:56). And they took offence at Him. But Jesus said to them “Only in His home town and in His own house is a prophet without honour” (Matthew 13:57). And He did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith (Matthew 13:58).
Thought for today: Jesus asks us to join Him for life.
Thought for the future: Jesus knows the way to heaven, so follow Him for eternal life. Where will you spend your eternity?
