“The Anointed of the Lord”
1 Samuel 10:1-16
1. The people asked for a king.
1 Samuel 8:5
“Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
2. Saul, son of Kish
1 Samuel 9:1-2
There was not a man among the people of Israel more handsome than he. From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people.
3. The lost donkeys
1 Samuel 9:3-6
They searched Benjamin and Ephraim and came to the land of Zuph.
1 Samuel 9:7-10
They came to Ramah the hometown of the prophet.
4. A prophet or seer.
1 Samuel 9:11-14
They sought the seer to inquire of God on their behalf.
As they were entering the city, they saw Samuel coming out toward them on his way up to the high place.
5. God prepares the way.
1 Samuel 9:15-18
The Lord revealed to Samuel, about this time tomorrow you will meet a man from the tribe of Benjamin. You shall anoint him prince over my people Israel.
6. The message to Saul
1 Samuel 9:19-20
The donkeys have been found.
You are the most desired in all Israel.
7. Saul’s reply
1 Samuel 9:21
Am I not a Benjaminite from the least of the tribes of Benjamin?
1 Samuel 9:22-24
Saul was given the seat of honor and the choice cut of meat to eat.
8. We often find it hard to believe what God has said about us.
Exodus 3:1-22 Moses at the age of 80 was called to lead Israel out of bondage.
Gideon while hiding in a wine press to thresh out his wheat, was called a mighty man of valor.
1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God.
9. We are who he says we are.
1 Samuel 10:1
Samuel took the flask and anointed him as king.
10. The Message
a) The Lord has anointed you to be prince over Israel.
b) You shall reign over the people of the LORD.
c) You shall save them from their enemies.
11. Signs and the word of God.
1 Samuel 10:1-5
The sign.
You will meet men at Rachel’s tomb in Ramah.
You will go to the Oak of Tabor and 3 men will meet you.
You will come to Gibeath-elohim and you will meet a group of prophets.
12. When the Spirit of God indwells someone they become a new person.
1 Samuel 10:6
Then the Spirit of the LORD will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
Conclusions:
If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Cor. 5:17)
Conclusions:
We are who he says we are.
Forgiven - (Col. 2:13)
Crowned with righteousness not our own. (Phil 3:9; Rom. 3:21-22)
Children of the King (1 John 3:1)
God’s own people - a royal priesthood (2 Peter 2:9)
