When this Canaanite women came to the Lord Jesus in her need, the Lord Jesus would not have anything to do with her. He was on a mission to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel". The Gospel message up to that point was "repent for the kingdom of God is at hand" - and that in the person of the King. The gospel of the Cross was yet future, waiting the acceptance or rejection of the King by the nation of Israel, but here and there the Lord ministers to a non-Israelite.
