A Divided Church for Future Glory
Genesis 35:21-26
Halifax: 28 August 2016, 10:30 am

In our sermon series from the book of Genesis, we are presently looking at a transitional chapter between the to-le-doth (i.e. generation) of Isaac and the to-le-doth of Jacob (Gen 35).

In this chapter we find four ways that the LORD prepares Jacob’s house (the church) for the next generation.

1) In calling Jacob to Bethel for spiritual renewal of himself and of his family (1-15).
- This is what we looked at two weeks ago.
2) In purging an idol from Jacob’s life—his beloved wife Rachel (16-20).
- This is what we looked at last week.
3) In completing Jacob’s family and bringing about great division among them (21-26).
- This is what we are looking at today.
- With these divisions, God sets the stage for His glory to be seen in the future—for the beauty of Christ to be revealed from what comes out of these divisions.
4) In taking Isaac to glory and in bringing Jacob and Esau into the future with peace (27-29).
- This is what we will look at next week, Lord willing.
