Old Testament Reading: Hosea 5
Our Response
Confessing our Sins:
O heavenly Father, we read ‘Do not be afraid,’ and yet afraid is what we are. The common fears of an unbelieving world are common among Your believing people. How can we be so afraid when our heavenly Father is so mighty and so good? Yet afraid we are. We confess that fear is the lot of sinners in a sinful world. Forgive us for forgetting that Christ has redeemed us from sin. Forgive us for fearing to even come to You and confess our fears, thinking You will love us less. Forgive us for forgetting that the gospel is itself Your answer to our fears, that we are saved not by our righteous deeds, but by Your free mercy in Jesus Christ. Forgive us for fearing men rather than fearing You, our great God and Father. Increase our freedom in the gospel that we might not be ashamed to bring our fears to You, our Father. Increase our joy in our Savior who has removed the final fear of judgment by bearing judgment for us, so that every other fear might be seen in the light of the Cross and the Resurrection, and we will live to Your glory in this world of fear. Through Christ the Savior we come. Amen.
