Growing up I watched a lot of cartoons. One of the themes that came up a lot was somebody on a beach finding a bottle or a lamp. They would pick up the lamp and they would rub it. Instantly, a genie would come out and ask the character what three wishes they wanted.

It got me thinking about how we sometimes treat God as a genie when we pray to Him. A lot of times in our prayers we ask God for things. A gimme prayer isn’t always a bad thing, but there is a verse in the Bible that I think is the best gimme prayer we can have.

“Two things I ask of you; deny them not to me before I die: remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” Proverbs 30:7-9
