Hear now my argument
and listen to the pleadings of my lips.
Will you speak falsely for God
and speak deceitfully for him?
Will you show partiality toward him?
Will you plead the case for God?
Will it be well with you when he searches you out?
Or can you deceive him, as one deceives a man?
He will surely rebuke you
if in secret you show partiality.
Will not his majesty terrify you,
and the dread of him fall upon you?
Your maxims are proverbs of ashes;
your defenses are defenses of clay. — Job 13:6-12

I love an underdog. And Job is a total underdog. Please remember, Satan has come after Job. Robbers have come after Job. Natural disasters have come after Job. And now three friends, who should be more supportive of Job, have come after Job with a theological talk-down. Keep in mind; Job is still covered in painful oozing worm-filled boils. And somehow, he has been lucid enough to listen to these three men bloviate and respond with a righteous comeback.

You know Job's endurance really makes me assess my own endurance. It forces me to access how willing I would be to suffer as Job suffered. And in his statement here, I think we discover the secret to his endurance. We see his endurance is the result of his undying devotion to the terrifying majesty of an Almighty God.

You know if you are looking to build endurance today. Then know it's not manufactured from human strength. It's not manufactured by increased intensity, surviving more pain, or developing some mind-over-matter mindset. There is no amount of human effort or tactics that will help you build enough spiritual endurance to overcome spiritual challenges the way Job did. The only way to build spiritual endurance is with the Spirit's help by focusing relentlessly on the terrifying majesty of Almighty God. Because when all you fear is God, you will fear nothing you encounter in the flesh — and this results in endurance.

PRAY THIS: God, I believe that you are trying to teach me to trust in you more than the circumstances of this life. Increase my trust, faith, and fear of you.
