“A Spiritual Prescription For Trying Times (James 5:13-20)” Pastor TJ Caparros March 13, 2022 Sunday Service
A prayerless Christian is a contradiction in terms. It's like saying a "praying atheist". Those things don't go together. And we need to understand that a prayerless Christian is not only a contradiction of terms, but it also reveals a fundamental problem. And that is pride.
Prayerlessness is a sign of pride. When we don't pray to God on a daily basis, we are somehow saying to ourselves that we can handle things or manage things on our own, that we do not need God's help or guidance And so it would be very prideful for a Christian not to pray at all.
Now, the Christians to whom James wrote to were guilty of that. But the main problem, as James pointed out, is that they were not praying. They were not seeking things from God. They were not asking God for wisdom. They were not dependent on the Lord.
They did not know how to solve their problems because they were relying on their own wisdom and their own strength. They were trying to gain them in their own way. They were not praying.
And James has made a great point that we need to be men and women of prayer. If we are to glorify God in our lives, and even in the midst of trials.
