Abuse
The Abused:
For those feeling abused in Isaiah 26:3–4 we read:
God will keep you in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed or anchored on God, because you trust in God. Trust in the Lord forever, for God, the Lord, is everlasting strength.
2 Samuel 22:2-4
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliver; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence. I, will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.
Our position, our place:
Rock – meaning we have a firm foundation, we can't be moved.
Fortress – secure, safe, impenetrable
Deliverer - not bound by anything such as: drugs, alcohol, sex, eating disorders, etc. or anyone, manipulation, codependency etc.
Refuge - I can run to the Lord and hide in safety. He is my safe haven
Savior – provider of eternal life You save me from violence: protection against attacks: Physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, moral, and financial.
Call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised. Very important because the Lord dwells among the praises of His people.
The Abuser:
To the abuser the word of God says:
Psalm 34:14 depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
James 1:20
For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things.
James 4:6–7
But God gives more grace. Therefore He says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
We see on these verses that pride holds back the grace of God whereas humbleness yields blessings. A humble heart will submit to God. And in God's power we can resist the devil and he will no longer have power over us so we can act justly, walk humbly, have mercy before God and stop abusing other people.
