WORSHIPPING WHEN ABSENT IN BODY
BUT TOGETHER IN SPIRIT
This is just a suggestion to aid your Sunday worship at home, not to a dictation to restrict it.
[1] Opening Reading | PSALM 109:30-31 | This morning we praise God because in his great love to us in his Son, Jesus Christ, he stands with us in our need, to save us from our condemnation.
[2] Song ONE | ALL CREATURES OF OUR GOD & KING
[3] Prayer | Holy God, we come to your word open to being surprised. Please silence our agendas; banish our assumptions; cast out our casual disinterest. Beat our expectations; clear the cobwebs from our ears; pierce the corners of our hearts with this word. We know that you can, we pray that you will, and we wait with anticipation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
[4] Reading | ACTS 1:12-26
[5] SERMON
In response to God’s Word we’ll sing of the uniqueness of Jesus as the only one who can save us, and of the unique assurance that He alone can give…
[6] Song TWO | IN CHRIST ALONE
[7] Song THREE | BLESSED ASSURANCE
[8] Assurance of Forgiveness | Soul weighed down by guilt, hear the good news of God’s forgiveness when we run to Jesus like Peter, rather than run away like Judas: ‘When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the guilt of my sin.’ [Psalm 32:3-5]
[9] Reading | PSALM 69
[10] Prayer | Psalm 69 helps us to pray for the persecuted church, those suffering simply for being Christians. Take time to pray, especially for Christians in Iran. You could simply use the words of v.29 to pray:
‘But as for [them], afflicted and in pain—
may your salvation, God, protect [them].’
[11] Song FOUR | HIS MERCY IS MORE
[12] Benediction | ROMANS 8:35-39 | ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ Amen!
