[1] Opening Reading | 1 PETER 1:1-7 | The apostle Peter reminds us that Christians are ‘exiles.’ We’re no longer at home in this world since being born again. But we still have endless reasons to rejoice. His great mercy towards us in Jesus give us a living hope and an indestructible inheritance!

[3] Prayer | Our Father in Heaven, as we come to hear your Word we confess that by nature we’re hard of heart to accept what you say, and weak in our flesh to obey it. So please, by your Spirit, give us hearts that don’t just listen to your Word, but love it; and lives that don’t just want to do it, but actually do live it out. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Holy God, as your people you’ve called us to be holy as you are holy. But too often rather than being holy like you we’ve had everything in common with our community. Too often we’ve not been transformed by the renewing of our minds, but we’ve conformed to the pattern of this world. Too often we’ve not been salt and light, but we’ve added to the decay and we’ve hidden amid the darkness. Too often we’ve made proud promises to stand with your Son like Peter, but we’ve soon denied Jesus like he did. Too often we’ve abandoned a right fear of you, and we’ve cowered in fear of our peers. Have mercy upon us. Forgive us for not believing what you’ve done for us, for not trusting what you’ve promised us, and for not becoming what you have made us to be. Please fill us with your Spirit, to live boldly for your Son, that we’d bring glory in the world to your Name. Through Jesus we pray, amen.
