In this month’s Men’s Breakfast, we kicked off our new series, The Well-Trained Man: Embracing the Disciplines of Godly Manhood. Pastor Todd Burgett challenged us from 1 Timothy 4:6–10 to take our spiritual training even more seriously than our physical training—because godliness holds promise not only for this life but for all eternity.

Through Paul’s instructions to Timothy, we discovered five marks of a well-trained man:
1️⃣ Uses the right resources – God’s Word and sound doctrine
2️⃣ Keeps the right goal – pursuing godliness
3️⃣ Understands the superior benefits – eternal rewards over temporary gains
4️⃣ Trains with confidence – trusting God’s promises
5️⃣ Strives for the ultimate reward – the hope of eternal life in Christ

This is a call to Christian men to get off the spiritual sidelines, step into “God’s gym,” and train for godliness with purpose and discipline. Over the next nine months, we’ll unpack the key disciplines of godly manhood—one at a time.

???? Main Point: The godly man takes his spiritual training more seriously than his physical training, knowing that godliness holds promise not only for this life but for all eternity.
