William Wilberforce is the man who is almost singlehandedly responsible for abolishing the slave trade in England in the 1800s. And he almost missed this amazing journey because he misunderstood that God’s divine calling can be something other than oversees missions. “My walk is a public one,” he wrote in his journal. “My business is in the world, and I must mix in the assemblies of men, or quit the post which Providence seems to have assigned me.”

For many years, we have equated the word “Christian calling” with the specific vocation of being an oversees missionary. But that’s too limited. No matter what season or stage you’re at in life, Christ has a calling on you.
