We should not be deceived concerning the coming of the anti-Christ.
Paul gives us 5 clear statements about the anti-Christ being revealed.
Vs. 1-12n

1. The anti-Christ will be revealed Prior to the Day of the Lord.
Vs. 1-2
The Day of the Lord is a separate event from the Rapture.
Notice Paul speaks about the coming of Jesus and our being gathered to him.
Notice secondly that Paul tells them that the Day of the Lord cannot come until the anti-Christ is revealed.

1) The Rapture of the church is a PRIOR event to the Day of Christ.

2) The anti-Christ will be revealed PRIOR to the Day of Christ because we know that; he will sign a 7 year agreement with Israel allowing them to rebuild the temple. (Dan. 9:27)

3) We know that the anti-Christ will be revealed PRIOR to the Day of Christ because; he will be revealed to Israel at the midpoint of the Great Tribulation.

2. The anti-Christ will be revealed as a Pretense of God himself.

Vs. 3-5

1) His PRETENSE is seen in the titles that are given to him.

Paul did not use the term Antichrist in his letter.

This term is used in the New Testament only by John (1 John 2:18, 22; 4:3; 2 John 7).

The Greek prefix anti has two meanings:

against, and instead of. But its primary use is that of instead of.

Man of sin.

This man is the embodiment of evil.

The son of perdition

This speaks of his destiny.

John 17:12-13

He is the beast of the book of Revelation.

Rev 13:1-4

2) His PRETENSE will be revealed when sets himself up against God.

This means that the Jewish Temple will be rebuilt in the future.

Rev 11:1-3

What did Jesus say about this particular event?

Matt 24:15-22

3. The anti-Christ will be revealed at the Proper time.

Vs. 6-7

1) The PROPER time will come after He; the one who is restraining him is removed.

Who is the restrainer?

Who has the power to restrain the work of Satan?

Matt 16:18-19

The church is helpless apart from the power of the Holy Spirit.

The only restrainer who can truly restrain Satan and the anti-Christ is the Holy Spirit.

Will the Holy Spirit ever be removed from the earth?

No, he is God and he is omnipresent.

Then what aspect of God’s restraint has to be removed prior to the anti-Christ coming on the scene?

It is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the church.

4. The anti-Christ will be revealed in the Power of Satan.

Vs. 8-9

1) The POWER of Satan will include all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders.

5. The anti-Christ will be revealed and many will Perish.

Vs. 10-12

1) Those that PERISH have been deceived.

First note that believers are not deceived.

Rev 13:8

Satan has always been an imitator.

2) Those that PERISH refused to love the truth.

God has no delight in judging the lost (Ezek. 33:11).

God is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

3) Those that PERISH will receive a powerful delusion from God.

Remember why Paul is writing this;

So that the believers would not be discouraged no matter how difficult life became;

no matter what kind of post tribulation teaching that they might hear.

He assures them that Jesus is coming for the church prior to the anti-Christ being revealed. 1 Thess 4:16-18
