May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
Good morning! Here is today’s word of blessings for you.
Psalm 141:1-5
1 I call to you, Lord, come quickly to me;
hear me when I call to you.
2 May my prayer be set before you like incense;
may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
3 Set a guard over my mouth, Lord;
keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil
so that I take part in wicked deeds
along with those who are evildoers;
do not let me eat their delicacies.
5 Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness;
let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head.
My head will not refuse it,
for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.
Today's title is “Blessed Godliness”
Who are the people of God? It is a broad question not easy to get a simple answer to. Let me try though. I would say that the people of God are the people who have the mind of God and live according to the heart of God. I believe that is probably why we use words like “godly” to describe such people. It seems to me that “Godly” or “Godliness” implies that they are like God in some ways. I personally use the similar three words that depict the characteristics of the people of God such as godly, Christlike, or spiritual to check my lifestyle. I dubbed such trinitarian words as GCS using the acronyms of God, Christ, and Spirit in comparison to GPS because it shows the direction of my life. What do you think? Today’s psalm shows a good example of godly life I believe. The psalmist shows a prayerful life. He says, “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.” He prays earnestly and regularly. He is very careful in what he says. He prays to God, “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”. Considering how often we slip our tongues and hurt other people with words. These are highly practical everyday prayers. Not only he is cautious about his own words, but he is also greatly concerned about his own heart which is the root of every action. “Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.” The godly man knows that his is wicked and needs to be restrained by God all the time. I believe such honesty and integrity is a good marks for a man after Gid’s own heart. Finally, we see the humility in the godly man. He says, “Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.”. The godly man willingly accepts the discipline of God and the correction of those around him. How humble and gracious he is! I am sure that God would indeed quickly hear his voice when he calls to God and render His love and power. How godly are you? How genuinely are you pursuing the godliness that will prompt God’s, own heart? Do you pray sincerely and faithfully? Are you guarding your mouth? Do you watch over your heart against evil? Are keeping humility before God and man? Then your prayer will surely move God’s hearts. Amen!
