The Resurrection and Marriage
1. Who were the Sadducees? 20:27
-small group, very educated and successful
What were the differences between the Sadducees and Pharisees? Acts 23:8
-Sadducees: less, no resurrection, no angels, no spirit, only Moses’s Pentateuch, in this world
-Pharisees: more, resurrection, angels, spirit, Pentateuch and all the prophets, beyond death
Without the hope of resurrection how does one live his life?
-this world is everything, they must achieve more in this life
2. What question did they ask Jesus? 20:28-30
a. Moses wrote for us……Deut. 25:5, 6 Gen.38
-Levirate marriage

b. Whose wife will she be at the resurrection? Luke 20:33

-people in this world
b. What kind of body do people have in this age?
-flesh
c. Who don’t marry? 20:35
-after resurrection, they don’t marry
d. What kind of body will we have in that age? 20:36, 9:29
-they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of

e. When will the adoption as God’s children be completed? 20:36
-After God give us resurrection bodies
f. What kind of social status will we have in that age? 20:36
-God’s children
g. What kind of social structure do you see in this passage after the resurrection?
-family: God’s family

h. What mistake did the Sadducees make in their question?
-they didn’t understand heavenly life in their own terms.
-totally different world
-It is not an extension of earthly life.
i. What passage did Jesus quote to prove the resurrection of the dead? 20:37, Exo. 3:6
-the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob
j. Why did Jesus quote from Exodus?
-because Sadducees had limited knowledges.
