John Woodside was born in Larne in 1946. He studied Biological and Agricultural Sciences at Queen, before completing a Masters degree and going on to be a lecturer and researcher at Greenmount College. He played rugby for Larne and Ballymena Rugby Clubs and began working in full-time ministry in his early 30s. After training at Union Theological College he was the minister of Kilkenny Presbyterian Church, Ballywillan Presbyterian Church, and Drogheda Presbyterian church before retiring in 2017. John is married to Sandra, a French teacher and former staff worker with Christian Unions Ireland in Lebanon, France and Ireland. They have three adult sons.
