The key figures in this storied development, such as Thaddaeus, the missionary Mari, Gregory the Illuminator, Abraham the Great of Kaskar, and Patriarch Timothy I of Seleucia-Ctesiphon, are each highlighted - along with their influence and achievements.

From the challenges it faced from leaders like Shah Shaipur II, Zoroastrianism, and the development of Islam, its dhimmī, and Buddhism, the Church of the East provides a fascinating look at a precious and often thriving outpost of Christendom.
