Gallio, the proconsul, interrupts Paul's defense and dismisses the case as an inconsequential Jewish matter. Despite this victory, Luke is not blind to some of the injustices, especially the indifference of the state to mob violence against a marginalized group. Perhaps this moment can be a reminder of our calling to be faithful critics of the state when it acts unjustly, even when that injustice bends in our favor.
