#Messiah
#Psalm2
#4Q246
This show is a part of an ongoing series of evidence presented by Greg Stafford to show why many people believe Jesus is the biblical Messiah. This episode considers the texts of Psalm 2:2-9 and the Dead Sea Scroll text of 4Q246, also known as the “Son of God” scroll, an Aramaic text dated to between the early and middle 1st century BCE, around 50-75 years before Jesus was born.
Psalm 2:2-9 is famous for using the Hebrew term for “Messiah” (mashiach) and, in the Greek translation, the word for “Christ” (christos), in reference to an Israelite king (David). But these texts are also applied through the line of David to Jesus in the New Testament (Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5; 5:5). This show will review the original text from the Psalms in comparison with 4Q246 and texts from Daniel and from Revelation, to determine whether these texts constitute pre-Christian evidence Jesus is the biblical Messiah.
