The expression “principalities and powers” occurs six times in the Bible. In each instance of its appearance, it is clear that these forces are an array of evil and malicious spirits who make war against the people of God. The “principalities and powers” of Satan wield great magnitude of evil power in the unseen realms to oppose everything that is of the living God.

The Holy Scriptures makes the first mention of the ‘principalities and powers” in Romans 8:37-39:
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8: 37-39 NKJV)
