A live show hosted by #GregStafford weekdays and Saturdays starting between 5:30 and 6:30 AM PST and lasting for about 20-45 minutes as we discuss biblical and other ancient texts which are grouped together as they relate to specific subjects.
This show will be about 1 John 2:7-11 according to #TheGreatMessage translation:
2:7 Dearly loved ones, I am not writing a new instruction [or, "new order"] to you. Rather, it is an ancient instruction which was available to you from the Beginning [or, "from the start"]. The ancient instruction is the message which you heard [or, "The Word is the ancient instruction, whom you have heard"].
2:8 Yet, in one sense, I am writing a new instruction to you, which is true with him and with you, because the darkness is being made to disappear and the true light is already brightly shining.
2:9 The one saying he lives in the light but continues to act hatefully toward his brother, that one is in the darkness to this point.
2:10 The one who acts lovingly toward his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing scandalous about him.
2:11 But the one who acts hatefully toward his brother is in darkness, in darkness he walks about, and he has not even come to know where he is going, for the darkness blinds his eyes.
[Note on “darkness blinds his eyes” in 2:11: In one sense, the things we do wrong, our “sin,” can “blind” us from seeing the “light,” or what is right, since it is at times hard to accept that we are ever sinning (compare John 3:19-21). In another sense, while we might be able to see what we should do when we are in “darkness,” even if we choose not to do it, at times we can also be ‘blinded’ by the light, leading us to self-righteousness. That is why angels of evil at times appear as angels of “light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), in order to “blind” people who are not in “darkness” with the very kind of “light” they seek. So whether in the darkness or in the light, we must be extremely careful that we accept our sins, so ‘the light that is in us is not really darkness’ (Matthew 6:23). Accepting the wrongs we do and trying to do better, rather than accepting wrongs as right, shows we are in the light even if we sin at times.—1 John 2:1-2.]
