3:21 Dearly loved ones, if ever our heart does not hold something against us then we have confidence toward God,

3:22 and whatever we may ask for we receive from him, because we closely follow his instructions [or, "orders"] and we continue doing the things which are acceptable before him.

3:23 This is his instruction, that we should trust the name of his Son, Jesus Christ. We should also love each other, just as he gave us an instruction.

3:24 The one closely following his instructions remains with him and he also remains with that one. By this we know we remain with him, because of the spirit which he gave to us.
