Many Christians today are driven to seek out new truths, thinking that if they can just discover the right secret to unlock, they’ll finally find what they need. The trouble is, you can get off track looking for these secrets, when the answers you seek are found t in the incredibly powerful Word of God. The truths it contains are
nothing new, yet they can light up your heart, bringing revelation that can change your life.
Today’s verse is a great example of how God’s Word can light a fire
within you. When Jesus appeared to two men on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection, at first they didn’t recognize Him. They spoke to this “stranger” about Jesus of Nazareth and how they just didn't know what to make of all the events that had taken place.
In response, Jesus began to explain Old Testament prophecies regarding the Messiah. As He spoke, the two men listened spell-bound. It wasn’t until He broke bread with them that they realized who He was, just before He disappeared. Looking at each other, they said, “We should have known it was Him! Our hearts burned within us as He taught us the Word!” (my paraphrase of today’s verse).
As you study God’s Word, Holy Spirit will reveal the truth to you, invoking a passionate desire to know more. God’s Word is what brings change, not some “new” secret! Make it a habit this year to study His Word, asking Him to reveal the truth to you, and get excited, because your life is going to change!
