If Jesus is the "Prince of Peace", as the prophet Isaiah foretold, why does he seem to be the cause of so much disagreement? Jesus himself says, "Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division." (Luke 12:51) Jesus says that because of him, families will be divided. Those who believe in him have peace with God -- peace made by Jesus himself on the cross. But those who reject him will forfeit the peace that he offers and oppose the message of those who confess him as Savior. Jesus knows the pain we suffer because of the division the gospel of peace brings, but he gives us the strength to persevere in the faith until we experience his perfect peace in the resurrection.
