Jesus made it clear that not everyone would have ears to hear His words. At the end of His teaching, He often said, “He who has ears, let him hear.” That means there are some who could hear the same truth over and over, but it will never sink in—unless God gives them ears to truly listen. Others, however, are given this gift, and their hearts are hungry. No matter how the truth is spoken, they lean in, they ask questions, and they long for deeper understanding.
This is a sobering reminder that faith is not something achieved through clever communication or persuasive arguments. It is God who grants ears to hear. The disciples weren’t convinced because of perfect explanations; they were given a spiritual hunger that made them pursue Christ no matter what. The question for us today is simple: Do you have ears to hear the words of Jesus, or is your heart closed to His voice?
