Doctrine of Deception!
1 Timothy 2:8-15
Key Verse: “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” 1 Tim 2:5-6
Context:
- Paul writing to Timothy concerning the doctrines of One God 1 Tim 2:5-8.
Outline: Deception - dishonest, fraud, trickery, cheating
1) Men and deception
a. Prayer
b. Praise and worship
2) Woman and deception v9-10 (young widows, house churches – busybodies, false teaching)
a. Set an example 1 Pet er 3:3 please read
i. Modesty
ii. Makeup
iii. Hair
iv. Jewelry
v. Clothing
b. Profess godliness
c. Good works and service (They where to be involved)
d. Teaching and authority v11-12
i. Silence – listen, quiet, calm, peace, stop
ii. Submission – compliance, unity, harmony, togetherness
3) Couple and deception - pass on into their seed (First couple Gen 3:14-19
a. Adam
i. Formed first – form by God – let us make man in our image Gen 3:16
ii. Disobedience -toil the ground for food
b. Eve
i. Deceived – by Satan – fallen nature - enmity between serpent and woman – seed and Seed
ii. Transgression – sin, crime, offense, - betrayal, violation, breaking of trust, disobedience
c. Nevertheless
i. Saved by childbirth – instead of the pain of death – next generation
ii. Need to continue in – faith, love, holiness and self-control
Reflection:
Paul’s deep desire for Timothy was that he would be a strong leader of doctrine, teaching to others that both in the church and in the community, there are all kinds of deception which can lead to transgression and sins against God. Both men and woman are exhorted to walk a godly and holy life between each other and in the church as true servants unto our Lord Jesus Christ.
