Don was another baby-boomer who grew up thinking that he was a Christian because everyone born in America was a Christian. As Don grew, he followed the path of least resistance and ended up much like the rest who follow that path. Finally, when Don was a junior in college the Lord helped him truly understand His love and power to change a life through Jesus. How Don thanks Him daily for His grace and mercy!

Don came to Christ at a Billy Graham Los Angeles Crusade in the 1960’s. While completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona, Don sensed the call of God on his life to follow Jesus Christ completely and possibly forget business and prepare for the ministry. Soon after that, Don met Alan Redpath who invited his wife, Jean, and Don to England, where they attended Capernwray Bible School. Upon returning to the United States, Don continued his studies at Talbot Seminary in La Mirada, California.

Early in his ministry, Don served for four years as an assistant pastor to Chuck Smith at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, California. Next Jean and Don moved to Lake Arrowhead where they planted and pastored Calvary Chapel of Lake Arrowhead. During those years, Don founded Calvary Chapel Bible College in nearby Twin Peaks at the Calvary Chapel Conference Center (The college is now located in Murrieta Hot Springs). Sensing the Lord’s direction to move on, Jean and Don then pioneered and pastored another Calvary Chapel in Redlands, California, for eleven years. In 1991, they again, still having that pioneering spirit, moved to San Jose with the heart to plant a number of churches in the Bay Area. There are now eight fellowships that have grown out of Calvary Chapel of San Jose.

In September 2002, Jean and Don responded to a request from Chuck Smith to return to Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa to serve as an assistant pastor. In 2004 they took to the leadership of Calvary Chapel of Laguna Beach to help guide it through a difficult time.

Their work being completed, Jean and Don have now responded to a long time desire to step out and serve the churches, schools and missionaries that they love so much around the world through teaching at conferences, retreats, Bible colleges, intern programs, church services, and any other door God opens. The teaching style of both Jean and Don is simple and practical. Their heart is to be encouraging, inspirational, and challenging to all in their desire to know our Lord Jesus and serve Him completely. This new season of their lives is what they call “Calvary Way Ministries.”

Jean and Don have been married since 1968 and have three sons and seven grandchildren. In the rare moments they are home, it is in Corona del Mar, California. They are blessed beyond their greatest hopes and dreams to be granted the privilege of living a life in service to the Lord Jesus Christ.
