Welcome to Calvary's Online Campus!
In this message, Pastor Daniel Arnold of Calvary Chapel Bristol in Bristol, UK walks through three powerful and practical warnings from the life of King David — one of the most beloved figures in all of Scripture. Though David was called “a man after God's own heart” (Acts 13:22), his life was marked by serious mistakes that every believer must guard against.
What You’ll Learn:
1. Why David — despite being anointed by God — repeatedly ran to the wrong places and the wrong people for help
2. How fear clouds our judgment and undermines our faith, and what it truly means to find refuge in the Lord
3. The spiritual danger of weariness and why being worn down makes us more vulnerable to listening to our flesh rather than to God
4. How comfort and idleness led David into his greatest moral failure — and how the same pattern shows up in our own lives today
Three Dangers Every Christian Must Know:
1. The Danger of Fear (1 Samuel 19–21) — When fear drives us, it leads us to irrational decisions, just as it drove David to seek refuge among his enemies in Gath. Learn how faith is the antidote to fear and how the Cave of Adullam became a place of true refuge in God.
2. The Danger of Weariness (1 Samuel 27) — After 10 years as a fugitive, David forgot the promises God had made to him. Discover why exhaustion makes us susceptible to leaning on our own understanding instead of trusting the Lord.
3. The Danger of Comfort (2 Samuel 11) — David stayed home when he should have been at war. Idleness opened the door to temptation, adultery, and murder. A sobering reminder of what happens when we grow complacent in our calling.
This sermon also ends with an encouraging reminder: even in our failures, God does not abandon us. David repented, was restored, and still received the testimony that he was a man after God's own heart. No matter what mistakes you've made, there is grace and restoration available to you today.
We pray that you are blessed by the message!
