The teacher contrasts what he has seen to be good (5:18) and what he has seen to be an evil (6:1). Some people can enjoy their wealth and possessions, and yet for others it brings them no joy. Furthermore, in the end, everyone goes to the same place. He wonders, how does this profit anyone? It’s a question that we have to wrestle with too.
