Luminaries are celestial bodies in the heavens that gives bright light and thus the Sun, Moon and Star and bright planets are called the Luminaries. These are the two great luminaries, whose orbs are as the orbs of heaven; and the dimensions of both are equal.

The occurrence of series of eclipse (lunar or solar) is a sign of the beginning of the end times as described in the Bible in the Book of Joel, Acts 2:20, and Revelation 6:12.

God also specifically stated in Genesis 1:14 “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” This explains that at the establishment of the sun and the moon, one of their purposes was to show signs.
