In James 1:26-27, we study helpful tests we can use to examine our lives to see whether our faith is genuine or not. James does not want his reader to be deceived of their standing with God. Having a controlled tongue, caring for those in need, and staying away from bad influences are the three tests given in these verses. These outward actions are “fruit” of a heart that has been transformed by Christ. For the believer, these tests bring great assurance while for the unbeliever it stresses the need of trust in Christ.
