The Text Readings (formerly known as “Day Texts”) are usually anywhere from 15-60 minutes. This show involves the translation and meaning of Exodus 6:1-3. In these text God lets Moses know he will soon see what will be done with Pharaoh; he also reveals Moses received something Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did not: A full understanding of Go'ds name.

But ... what is this “full understanding"? Does it have anything to do with the pronunciation of God’s name? Join me later this morning and we'll find out together!

Our Text Reading translations are from the Hebrew (H) and Greek (G) texts which are as follows:

(H) 6:1 Then Jaho(h)-ah began to say to Moses, "Now you will see what I will cause to occur respecting Pharaoh, because by a strong hand he will send them away and he will with a strong hand even throw them out of his land.
(G) 6:1 Then Lord [Jaho(h)-ah] said to Moses, "Now you will see what things I will do to Pharaoh, for by a strong hand he will send them away and with a raised hand he will drive them out of his land."

(H) 6:2 Again God began to speak to Moses and he said to him, "I am Jaho(h)-ah.
(G) 6:2 Now God spoke to Moses again and said to him, "I am Lord [Jaho(h)-ah].

(H) 6:3 In the past I would appear to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but I had not caused my name 'Jaho(h)-ah' to be completely understood by them.”
(G) 6:3 And I was revealed to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob as the one who is their God. But my name, Lord [Jaho(h)-ah], I did not fully explain [or, ‘make clear’] to them.”
