Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
17:9. The way to preserve peace is to make the best of everything; not to NOTICE what has been said or done against ourselves.
T.H.M. “NOT to Notice” is a GRACE poured upon you because the debt/trespass is always personal. And if noticed, gives the debt/trespass back to God. As given to us in The Lord's Prayer (also called the Our Father or Pater Noster) in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, AS we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'"
WE MUST FORGIVE to receive forgiveness, it is KEY, for a successful Christian Walk.
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
(9) He that covereth a transgression seeketh love—i.e., one who does not notice, but rather conceals and excuses, anything done against him; that man “follows after charity” (1Corinthians 14:1). (Comp. Proverbs 10:12.)
He that repeateth a matter, who is always returning to old grievances, “alienates (even his) chief friend.”
